Lucy M. This was an engaging, thoughtful piece. The problem with taking the position that our role in Afghanistan gave us 20 years of security is this: at some point we experienced an equally devastating cost to our economy as 9/11 did. By sinking capital and money into one of the most difficult to govern regions of the world, we’ve squandered our opportunity here at home. Questions I’m left with: 1) at what point did it cost more than it was worth? 2) what did we lose in the process?
