Guerilla Data!
You don’t need an data army to start a data revolution in your organization. You just need a few perps in a Data Underground.
Data leadership. The miracle cure for all of an organization’s data problems, right? We hear or read about the need to hire lots of Data C-Suite positions. A Chief Data Officer. A Chief Data Scientist. A Chief Data Architect.
But, who is going to hire these people? Someone with authority. And of course, a budget. But…by the law of averages, it’s likely that we, good readers, aren’t at the helm of our company. Not everyone can be a CEO! Most of us are way lower in the food chain. And more painfully: we’ve likely had a rough day this week, and maybe even a rough couple of months, because the organizations we work in aren’t very good at using data, or hiring people who know how.
This is a real problem, real enough for major research groups to validate our pain:
- Gartner’s survey of companies revealed “organizations believe poor data quality to be responsible for an average of $15 million per year in losses.”; 60% of those surveyed couldn’t even say how bad the losses are.
